Irvine Valley's baseball team held a late lead, but couldn't hold on and lost to Grossmont, 10-7, in a nonconference game at Grossmont on Thursday afternoon.
Irvine Valley saw its four-game win streak halted.
The Lasers, who are ranked No. 12 in Southern California, had their record slip to 10-5 overall. Grossmont improved to 3-5 with the win.
IVC was up, 6-4, heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Grossmont scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 7-6 lead.
But Grossmont put three runs up in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead for good. The key blow was a two-run double by Justen Burkey.
Irvine Valley got another standout performance at the plate from Odekirk, who went 4 for 4 with a double, triple, three runs scored and one RBI. He is now hitting .492 on the year (31 of 63) with a team-best 24 runs scored.
Gaynor went 2 for 4 with a run scored and one RBI, sophomore designated hitter Alec Ceniceros was 1 for 4 with two RBI and freshman second baseman Colin Conroy went 2 for 3 with a walk, a stolen base, one run and one RBI.
Sophomore Austin Reynolds started on the mound and went five innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and four walks with four strikeouts. He earned a no decision.
Freshman Dominic Dipaolo also gave up a run in 0.2 innings pitched.
Irvine Valley will get back at it on Friday when it hosts Allan Hancock at 2 p.m.
