Basketball player Kiara King signs with Cal State San Bernardino

Irvine Valley sophomore women's basketball player Kiara King has signed a letter of intent to play at Cal State San Bernardino next school year.

King was a two-year player for the Lasers and started most of the time during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.

She averaged 11.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game in 18 games this past season.

King went down with a shoulder injury early in Orange Empire Conference play and missed the rest of the year.

King scored in double figures in 13 games this past season, including her final nine games. She had a season-high 17 points in back-to-back games against Chaffey and San Mateo.

King also recorded a season-best nine assists against West LA and a seasons-high 14 rebounds in a victory over Southwestern.

She helped Irvine Valley to a combined record of 39-22 in her two seasons with the program. IVC also made the playoffs both years.

Coach Julie Hanks said King, who played in high school at Vista Murietta, is back to 100 percent and is excited about contributing to Cal State San Bernardino's program next season.

"Kiara can score and play either guard spot," Hanks said. "She knows what it takes to be a part of a winning program and I know she will be successful at San Bernardino."

The Coyotes finished the 2013-14 season with a record of 9-16 overall and were 8-14 in the CCAA.

Former Laser player Jackie Fa'asamala was a senior on the Cal State San Bernardino team this year.
