A number of Irvine Valley baseball players have signed to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year schools over the last few weeks and they will each be highlighted over the coming week at www.ivclasers.com
Irvine Valley freshman third baseman Spencer Weston has signed and will be moving on to play at NCAA Division II Western Oregon.
Weston will be joining sophomore teammate Ryan Santa Cruz at Western Oregon.
After an impressive time playing at Woodbridge High, Weston went to San Diego State. He red-shirted there in 2018.
This past season, Weston finished the season solid for IVC, starting 10 of the last 15 games and playing in 12 of them.
He finished the year batting .211 in 19 games with two runs scored, a double and two RBI. He also had four RBI.
Irvine Valley finished with a 20-19-1 record and just missed making the postseason.
At Woodbridge, Weston hit .273 over three varsity seasons, including posting a career-best .333 mark as a senior,.
He was a 2017 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American and a Perfect Game California All-Region Second Team.
He ranked seventh best among third baseman in California among 2017 class.
Weston is headed to a Western Oregon squad that had an impressive season in 2019.
The Wolves went 30-13 and 26-14 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and made the finals of the GNAC Tournament. They were ranked as high as No. 10 in the nation at the end of the season.
Western Oregon also just had four players picked in the Major League Baseball Draft, which was a record for the school and the conference.
