Beach volleyball team holds end of year get together

The Irvine Valley women's beach volleyball team recently held an end of the year banquet at the beach in Huntington.

The Lasers ended the year with a record of 5-19 overall and 5-9 in the Orange Empire Conference, playing a tough schedule under first-year head coach Kari Hemmerling.

But IVC improved throughout the season. The Lasers won four of their last 10 matches and were very competitive in many others, including just falling to Cypress and Riverside by scores of 3-2.

The freshmen No. 1 pair of Jazlynn Fu and Tori Esko were named second team all-Orange Empire Conference after the conference pairs tournament (story about them upcoming) and at least one player will be moving on to a four-year school to continue to play.

Sophomores on the IVC team this season were Emmi Scelzo, Riley Seymer, Nikki MacDonald (moving on to play soccer at Missour Valley State), Nikki Korneff and Ellyza Quiat.
