Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team got the conference part of its schedule off to a strong start with a sweep of Palomar at home on Wednesday.
The Lasers also improved their record to 4-5 overall with the 25-23, 25-11, 25-12 victory.
Irvine Valley had rough first set hitting, but still pulled out the win.
The second and third sets were a different story for the Lasers.
After hitting -.034 in opening set as a team, IVC hit .346 in the second set and an impressive .417 in the third and final set.
IVC led, 24-20, in the first set before the Comets scored three in a row.
But Palomar served into the net on the next point to hand Irvine Valley the win.
Irvine Valley jumped out to a 24-9 lead in the second set on a kill by sophomore outside hitter Lucas Vo, an overpass kill by freshman middle blocker Nolan Clarke, another kill by Clarke and a hit into the net by Palomar.
Sophomore outside hitter Tucker McClain closed the set out three points later with a kill.
A combo block by freshman outside hitter Vance Giannino and freshman middle blocker William Haves gave Irvine Valley set point in the third set and a hitting error by Palomar ended the set.
IVC was led by sophomore middle blocker Joshua Damianopoulos with seven kills. He hit .667 on the night and added four blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Lucas Vo contributed six kills for the Lasers.
Sophomore libero Cage Gonzalez finished with nine digs and freshman setter Logan Vo had 17 assists and four digs.
Irvine Valley plays again in a conference match on Friday at San Diego Mesa at 6 p.m.
