Tough week for men's volleyball as playoff chances take a hit

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team loses to San Diego Mesa at home on Wednesday in four sets and then falls at San Deigo Miramar on Friday also in four sets.

The Lasers had their record slip to 6-12 overall and 3-7 in conference action.

Irvine Valley host San Diego Mesa on Wednesday and fell, 25-17, 24-26, 25-20, 25-18, on Wednesday at home.

Mesa hit .323 as a team and was led by Ryan Enos with 16 kills.

Sonnyboy Matavao and Dane Roblee each added nine kills and Slater Beacham ran the offense with 44 assists.

Irvine Valley was paced by freshman outside hitter Cordae Sims, who had 10 kills and six digs and sophomore outside hitter Tucker McClain, who ended with seven kills.

Freshman setter Isiah Sibbitt had 25 assists for the Lasers.

Then on Friday, Irvine Valley lost at San Diego Miramar, 24-26, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22.

Against Miramar, Sims had another solid match, finishing with 14 kills and hit .440. He added four digs.

McClain ended with 12 kills and two blocks and freshman outside hitter Conor Engelbrecht added 11 kills and five digs.

Sibbitt finished with 33 assists and four digs.

Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday, hosting Grossmont in a conference match at 6 p.m.
