The 2025 Irvine Valley women's volleyball team officially started its season on Friday night at home.
There were successes and some struggles, but the Lasers are on the right track with new full-time head coach Kari Hemmerling.
Irvine fell to one of the best teams in the state, which had a record of 22-5 overall and won the Western State Conference with a mark of 11-1.
The Lasers fell to the Raiders, 25-21, 25-15, 25-13.
Irvine Valley battled tough in the first set and then fell behind in the next two sets and had to try and play catch-up.
IVC held a 13-9 lead in the first set.
But Moorpark tied the score at 16 and then scored the next three points to take a 19-16 advantage.
An ace by freshman Emi Velasco brought the Lasers within 19-18, and IVC held tough, down just, 20-19, after a net by the Raiders.

Irvine Valley went down eary in the second set, 12-4, and Moorpark rolled the rest of the way in the second and third sets.
Freshman opposite Dalilah Rivero led Irvine Valley with nine kills.
Freshman outside hitter Emma Mendel added six kils and freshman setter Tori Esko chipped in 15 assists and seven digs for Irvine Valley.
Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday in a non-conference match at Canyons at 5 p.m. and then is at noon for a match on Friday at Santa Monica.
