Irvine Valley men's soccer players Connor Elder, Joseph Ferguson and Albert Chavez and Laser women's player Evelyn Lucatero competed in sophomore showcases last weekend as part of the CCCAA State Tournament weekend in Ventura.
Elder, Ferguson and Chavez helped Irvine Valley finish the season with a 16-5-3 record overall. The Lasers were ranked in the state most of the season and took second in the Orange Empire Conference.
Elder had 15 goals and four assists for 34 points. He finished his two-year career at IVC with 25 goals and five assists. He was a two-year, all-conference player for the Lasers.
Ferguson was also a two-year, all-conference player. He played all over the field for IVC, spending time in the midfield as a freshman and most of his sophomore year as a defender.
He had one goal and three assists this year and ended his two-years at Irvine Valley with six goals and eight assists.
Chavez was a two-year, all-conference player as well. He was named first team all-conference this season after being one of the top defensive midfielders in the state.
He also scored one goal and three assists. In his two years at IVC, he had two goals and four assists.
Lucatero had one assist for the IVC women's team this season. She was a key defensive player for the Lasers.
She was named first team all-conference in 2014 at Irvine Valley.
Lucatero was part of a defense in 2014 that allowed just 14 goals all season and recorded a school-record 11 shutouts.
Irvine Valley's women's team finished with a record of 7-8-6 this past season.
