Six men's soccer players named all-Orange Empire Conference

Irvine Valley sophomore men's soccer players Sean Goode, Jose Rivera and Albert Chavez were recently named first team all-Orange Empire Conference for their efforts this season.

Sophomores Connor Elder, Joseph Ferguson and Daniel Segal were picked to the second team for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley got big years from all six players.

The Lasers finished with a record of 16-5-3 overall, were second in the Orange Empire Conference, won two playoff games and made a Southern California Regional Playoff Final for the second year in a row.

IVC ended up ranked seventh in the state and 10th in the nation.

Goode, who played striker, paced Irvine Valley's offensive attack. He scored a team-high 20 goals and added five assists for 45 points. Goode scored five game-winning goals and had three matches with three goals or more, including scoring four times in Irvine Valley's 5-0 conference win over Cypress on Oct. 25.

Goode led the conference in goals at the end of the year and was second in points.

Rivera showed off his all-around skills with 13 goals and 14 assists for 40 points. He was tops on the team in assists and also paced the conference.

It was the second straight season that Rivera was named first team all-conference. He scored 13 goals and had five assists a year ago.

Chavez was rock solid as a defensive midfielder for the Lasers. He had one goal and three assists on the year. He was also named first team all-conference for the second year in a row.

Elder and Ferguson earned second team all-conference nods for the second straight season.

Elder was another force for the Lasers on offense. Elder had 15 goals and four assists for 34 points.

He finished his two-year career at IVC with 25 goals and five assists.

Ferguson played all over the field for IVC, spending time in the midfield as a freshman and most of his sophomore year as a defender.

He had one goal and three assists this year and ended his two-years at Irvine Valley with six goals and eight assists.

Segal came on strong in his freshman year as a striker for IVC.

He contributed nine goals and four assists for 22 points. Segal had three matches where he scored two goals, including both in a 2-1 win at Norco on Oct. 11.
