Flag football's Allison Faggella signs with Westcliff University

Irvine Valley's women's flag football team, which was one of the first squads to start a program in the state in 2025, recently had sophomore Allison Fagegella sign with Westcliff University

Faggella has played two years of flag football at Irvine Valley and also competed with the Laser women's basketball team during the 2024-25 season.

The wide receiver and linebacker out of Corona del Mar High helped IVC to a very successful season this past spring.

She helped the Lasers to a record of 11-3 overall in the 2025 inaugural campaign and then led the squad to a record of 15-4 overall and 4-2 and a co-championship in the Orange Empire Conference this spring.

The team was also ranked as high as fifth in the nation in one poll.

IVC went on to capture the first Orange Empire Conference Tournament with a come from behind 32-27 victory over Cypress at home on Apr. 30.

Westcliff announced in May that it was adding flag football for the 2027 spring season.

The program will begin immediately as a varsity sport.

Women's Flag Football has experienced explosive growth throughout California in recent years. The CIF officially sanctioned girls flag football in 2023, with participation numbers and school sponsorship rapidly increasing across the state.

At the collegiate level, the NAIA has been at the forefront of the sport's development, elevating Women's Flag Football to invitational status as the sport continues its push toward long-term championship recognition.
