Men's tennis team earns top seed in So. Cal. Regional Playoffs

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team was named the top-seeded team in the Southern California Dual Team Regionals on Saturday.

On the men's side, defending state champion Irvine Valley returns as the top seed in SoCal, while Chabot holds the top spot in the North. 

Irvine Valley has a record of 10-1 overall (with its only loss coming to a four-year college), won the Orange Empire Conference once again with a 8-0 record.

The tean is led by coach Ross Duncan and highlights standout players like Philip Neuman, who was named the OEC player of the year (that story will be released on Monday) along with Steven Anderson, Richard Petery, Nevin McCann, Bradley Yung, Humam Alajeely and Jonathan Hinkel.

Irvine Valley will take on Santa Barbara City in the first round on Tuesday at home at 2 p.m.

Santa Barbara City has a record of 3-8 overall, but played against some of the top teams in the state all season long. The Vaqueros went 0-6 in conference and are seeded #8 in the South.

The winner will move on to the second round on Apr. 14 against either No. 4 San Diego City or No. 5 Ventura. If the Lasers win this Tuesday they would be the host team again on Apr. 14.

And on the women's side, Sierra leads the way in NorCal, while LA Mission garnered the top seed in SoCal.

Quarterfinal play will take place on Tuesday, Apr. 7 with semifinals to follow on Tuesday, Apr. 14. The Regional Final will commence on Saturday, Apr. 18. All duals will be hosted by the higher seeded institution.

The 3C2A State Team Dual Championships will take place on April 22 at Ventura College.

The 3C2A Individual Regional and State Championships will follow on April 23-26 at the Ojai Tournament.
