Tennis team cruises in opening round over Santa Barbara City

The Irvine Valley men's tennis team had no problem in its first round match of the 3C2A So. Cal Regional on Tuesday.

IVC, ranked No. 1 in the region, made quick work of No, 8 Santa Barbara City, 5-0, at home.

The Lasers now move on to host No. 4 Ventura on Apr. 14 at 2 p.m. in the next round.

Irvine Valley (11-1 overall) won all three doubles matches and then captured the three singles contests (with matches wrapping up at similar times) to close out the 5-0 victory.

In doubles to start, Orange Empire Conference team of the year - freshmen Philip Neuman and Steven Anderson won, 8-3.

The sophomore duo of Bradley Yung and Nevin McCann came out on top, 8-1, on the second court.

And the No. 3 team of freshman Richard Petery and sophomore Jonathan Hinkel earned a 8-3 victory to put the Lasers out in front, 3-0.

After that in singles, Neuman, the player of the year in the OEC, won, 6-3, 6-1.

And Anderson and Petery each captured straight-set victories on the second and third courts.

Anderson won, 6-0, 6-1, and Petery earned a 6-2, 6-0 triumph.

IVC was ahead also on the fourth, fifth and sixth courts with McCann, Yung and Hinkel when the match was called.

Ventura (14-9 overall) defeated San Diego City at home on Tuesday.
