Irvine Valley defeated Foothill, 5-0, on Apr. 22, in Ojai in the state final.

Hinkel and freshman Richard Petery came up big for IVC on court three in the doubles competition, rallying off three straight games twice within the dual on their way to an 8-3 victory over Devin Bergman and Santi Montgomery of Foothill.

Irvine Valley ended with an overall record of 14-1 overall under head coach Ross Duncan with its only loss coming narrowly to a four-year college for the year.

Hinkel earned several other honors for the Lasers this past season.

Every year the Intercollegiate Tennis Association recognizes coaches and student-athletes for their excellence both on the court and in their communities throughout the season.

The CCCAA national awards include: ITA Dunlop/Coach of the Year, ITA Assistant Coach of the Year, Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award, ITA Rookie of the Year, ITA Most Improved Sophomore, and the ITA Sophomore Player of the Year.

Hinkel received the 2026 Arthur Ashe Leadship & Sportsmanship Award for the state.

He served as a captain for the Irvine Valley men's tennis team in 2026.

Hinkel strived to bring all of his teammates together and to create an environment in which everyone could thrive.

Hinkel was unbeaten in singles play during the regular season and only had one loss in doubles against junior college competition.

Within the community, Hinkel has spent time coaching youth tennis at the same academy in which he played, and also has volunteered at an elementary school.

He also was named Irvine Valley's and the Orange Empire Conference's 2026 Character Champion male award winner.
