Irvine Valley's baseball team was down to its final outs, but found a way and scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning and added wo more runs in the ninth to come from behind and earn a 5-3 win at LA Valley on Thursday.
Irvine Valley, ranked No. 14 in the state, improved its record to 13-3 overall.
The Lasers take on LA Mission on Saturday at noon at home before it starts Orange Empire Conference play next week against Cypress in a three-game set.
Irvine Valley fell behind early at LA Valley on Thursday, giving up three runs in the first three innings, but then the Lasers started to chip away.
They got on the board in the top of the fourth on an infield RBI single by sophomore right fielder Sam Tucci to make it a 3-1 game.
It took a while after that, but the Lasers answered late.
In the eighth inning, IVC scored two runs on an RBI double by freshman first baseman Jacob Ceja and a RBI single to left by sophomore shortstop Jake Amundson to tie the game at 3-3.
Irvine Valley put the game away in the top of the ninth with another two runs.
Freshman catcher Caleb Caparco gave the Lasers the lead for good at 4-3 with a double through the left side.
And freshman Mason Gerhardt hit a run-scoring single to tack on a run.
Irvine Valley also recieved big-time relief pitching.
Freshman Michael Russell threw three scoreless innings, freshman Fausto Aguirre stepped up and got a big out and sophomore righty Andres Hernandez earned his second win of the season with 2.2 scoreless and giving up just one hit with two strikeouts.
Sophomore center fielder Brandon Abernathy and Ceja each had two hits in the game for Irvine Valley.
