The Irvine Valley men's basketball team closed out the Monterey Bay Classic on Saturday with its second straight win.
The Lasers captured the consolation title by defeating host Monterey Peninsula, 80-64.
The win improved Irvine Valley's record to 9-3 overall, while Monterey Peninsula fell to 4-7.
Irvine Valley started the tournament on Thursday with a tough loss to a strong Sierra team, but defeated Hartnell, 67-47, in a consolation game on Friday.
Against Monterey Peninsula, it was a close game at the half. IVC led, 36-31.
But the Lasers were much better in the second half, out-scoring the Lobos, 44-33, for the 16-point win.
IVC shot 44.3 percent (27 of 61) from the field as a team in the contest, knocked down 12 three-pointers and out-rebounded Monterey Peninsula, 45-30.
Freshman guard Ahmad Alhammouri led the way for the Lasers with 20 points. He scored all 20 in the first half, going 7 of 10 from the field and 6 of 7 from three-point range.
Alhammouri added eight rebounds and two assists.
Three other Laser players scored in double figures.
Sophomore post player Matt Mowers had 14 points and six rebounds and freshman guard Sam Meza-Tallada and freshman center Zeno Calastas eacn finished with 11 points.
Meza-Tallada also had five rebounds and Calastas chipped in three rebounds and three blocks.
Mowers was named to the all-tournament team.
IVC plays again next Saturday, hosting San Diego Miramar at 5 p.m.
