Men's basketball team has trouble with No. 1 Fullerton

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team lost to No. 1 in the state Fullerton, 71-38, at home in an Orange Empire Conference game on Wednesday night.

Irvine Valley's record went to 13-8 overall and 3-4 in conference, while Fullerton improved to 20-1 overall and stayed unbeaten in the OEC at 7-0.

The Lasers next play at Cypress on Friday at 5 p.m. to start the second round of conference.

It is the 10th straight year under coach Perry Webster that Fullerton has captured at least 20 wins.

The 38 points were the fewest IVC has scored this serason and the least amount of points that Fullerton has given up this year.

The Hornets led, 38-16, at the half and led by as many as 34 points (66-32) in the second half.

Irvine Valley was led by freshman guard Ahmad Alhammouri with 13 points and sophomore post player Matt Mowers had six points and two rebounds.

Three Hornets scored in double figures led by Brayden Smith with 16 points, followed by Yode Oke with 11 and Jaedyn Patterson with 10 points.

Oke recorded another double-double pulling down 11 rebounds, while Patterson distributed the ball efficiently with seven assists.

Donovan Pitts, Trey Thompson and Bishop Brooks each added seven points for the Hornets.
