Men's soccer team drops tough conference match at Santa Ana

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team remained in first place in the Orange Empire Conference, but dropped a 2-1 decision on the road at Santa Ana Friday afternoon.

IVC's record slipped to 11-6-0 overall and 8-2-0 in conference play.

Santa Ana moved to 3-8-6 overall and 2-4-4 in the OEC.

Irvine Valley scored the first goal of the match in the 32nd minute when freshman forward Drew Payne ran on to a pass from sophomore forward Armin Tehrani and scored.

The Lasers out-shot the Dons, 13-7, in the match, but couldn't find the back of the net again.

Damian Baunuelos snuck a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal in the 42nd minute to put Santa Ana on top for good.

Santa Ana earlier tied the contest at 1-1 in the 35th minute off of a rebound header by Alexander Hipoito.

Irvine Valley freshman goalie Sansiro Murata made one save in the game.

IVC plays again in another big conference match on Tuesday at home against Cypress at 3 p.m.
