Women's basketball team crushes El Camino in first home game

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team defeated El Camino by 51 points, 83-32, in its first home game of the season on Wednesday night.

Sophomore wing Alexis Price led the way with 23 points and nine rebounds for IVC.

Sophomore forward Kivonni Williams chipped in 14 points and eight steals and sophomore guard Symantha Barnett added 11 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals in the victory.

Irvine Valley sophomore forward Gianna DeForest also scored in double figures with 10 points. She also contributed five rebounds.

Irvine Valley led, 24-8, after the first quarter and, 39-16, at the half to run away with the win.

IVC improved its record to 5-1 overall. El Camino is still looking for its first win.

Irvine Valley shot 43.2 percent (32 of 74) from the field and held the Warriors to just 20.4 percent (10 of 49).

And the Lasers had 55 rebounds compared to 34 for El Camino.

The Lasers turned the Warriors over 26 times in the game for 37 points off of turnovers.

Irvine Valley led by as many as 57 points (2:03 left in the fourth quarter) before winning by 51.

IVC plays again on Friday traveling to Rio Hondo for a game at 6 p.m.
