Women's basketball team beats Ventura in crossover opener

Irvine Valley knocked off Ventura for the second time this season on Friday night to start the VC Crossover.

The Lasers defeated Ventura, 46-34, to improve their record to 13-2 overall.

IVC out-scored the Pirates, 30-18, in the second half after the game was tied at 16 at the break.

Sophomore guard Symantha Barnett finished with 12 points and sophomore forward Alexis Price added 11 points and nine rebounds to lead the Lasers.

Sophomore forward Neryah Lokeni contributed nine points, three rebounds and three assists for IVC.

Irvine Valley shot just 31.7 from the field as a team, but hed Ventura to just a 22.2 percent shooting clip.

IVC also out-rebounded Ventura, 45-29, on the night.

Irvine Valley finishes the event on Saturday, taking on Oxnard at 4 p.m.
