The Irvine Valley women's basketball team, after a fast start to the season, opens up Orange Empire Conference action Wednesday night against one of the best teams in the state.
IVC, ranked No. 10 in the latest California Community College Women's Basketball Association Poll hosts No. 7 Cypress in first game of the Orange Empire Conference on Wednesday night at home at 7 p.m.
Cypress has a record of 13-3 overall and is also ranked No. 4 in the So. Cal. in the latest coaches poll.
The Chargers have won two straight and last played on Dec. 30, defeating San Mateo, 66-47.
Gisele Martinez finished with 21 points and Mariah Henderson had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
On the year, Henderson is averaging 16.2 points, Christaesha Jackson averages 14.3 points and 9.5 rebounds and Kaylene Vivo is averaging 9.7 points per game and Marina Interiano averages 8.2 rebounds per game.
Irvine Valley has a record of 14-2 overall.
IVC defeated Oxnard in its last contest, 65-39.
Irvine Valley was led by freshman guard Lexy Gallegos, who had a season-high 15 points.
She went 6 of 13 from the field and made three three-pointers.
Gallegos added six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Irvine Valley also received 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists and three steals from sophomore guard Symantha Barnett.
Sophomore wing Kivonni Williams and freshman guard Andrea Castillo each contributed eight points with Williams also finishing with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. And sophomore forward Alexis Price had seven points, six rebounds and two assists for the Lasers.
On the year, Price is averaging 13.8 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.1 steals, Barnett averages 12.7 points and 7.8 rebounds and Williams averages 11.4 points and 6.5 rebounds for the Lasers.
